Announcing: Yoga + Storytelling in Kenya
10 days of safari, city, and sea in the most magical of places.
Yes, you can ride horses to see the world’s last remaining Northern white rhinos.
Hello writers and yogis! I am so so so thrilled to announce a third annual storytelling + yoga retreat in magical Kenya, with National Geographic photojournalist Nichole Sobecki, and — a special offering this year — yoga classes with 600-hour certified teacher Emily Shapiro(!). The retreat will run from March 14-23, 2024.
We begin in Nairobi, Kenya’s humming capitol, where we’ll meet some baby elephants, visit a giraffe sanctuary, and explore some of the city’s most exciting restaurants. Then we’ll be off to Ol Pejeta, a private conservancy in Kenya’s Laikipia region, for four days of safari, yoga, meditation, optional horse rides to see the last remaining Northern white rhinos, sundowners, and more. Finally, we will head to Lamu on the Kenyan coast for poolside yoga, fresh-caught seafood, evening dhow rides, long beach walks, and the ability to explore one of the most stunning and special places in the world.

Throughout the retreat, Nichole will lead photography workshops — not just how to take a great photo on safari, but how to use visual tools to tell a compelling story. Jill will lead accompanying writing workshops focused on effective storytelling and weaving words with images. And Emily will teach daily vinyasa yoga classes in extraordinary settings. This is not your typical drop-into-a-beautiful-place yoga retreat: Nichole has lived in Nairobi for a decade, and Jill spent several years there as well; we’ll be taking you to our very favorite places that may not be on the typical tourist agenda. And we’ll both work with you individually on your own story-telling project.
No writing, photography, or yoga experience necessary, just an open mind and a sense of adventure.
All details, including a rough itinerary and pricing, are here. Please do reach out if you’re interested.
Hope to see some of you in Kenya!
xx Jill
